Speech to 2010 NSW Nationals Annual Conference

It’s great to be here in Tamworth on the back of what happened here last weekend.
Nobody should kid themselves. What happened here on Saturday was truly groundbreaking,
Indeed unprecedented in Australian politics.
Of course last Saturday was a day that was all about the candidates,
And can I give a big congratulations to the successful candidate, Kevin Anderson,
Who is of course with us here today.
But also to James Treloar, Russell Webb and Mark Rodda,
Congratulations to you all on a spirited preselection, fought on the issues and not the personalities.
To our State Director Ben Franklin who works so tirelessly, Christine Ferguson and their team at head office and our Duty MLC Trevor Khan,
Right down to all the grass roots party members who braved the cold on the day,
Our success last Saturday is a credit to the entire NSW Nationals organisation. You should all be proud that we pulled it off.
And it’s truly exciting for the future.
I’ll address the future shortly.
But to fully understand where we are going,
We must at look at how far we’ve come.

Welcome

Regional NSW is a wonderful place to live. Not only do we have some of the most beautiful landscapes and sought-after surroundings in Australia, but we also boast warm and friendly people who make living in regional Australia such a joy.

As the Leader of the NSW Nationals I am proud to call regional NSW home and will be working hard to ensure all regional areas receive their fair share.

Documents obtained by the Liberals & Nationals under Freedom on Information reveal the RTA estimates that it costs $2,000 for every minute one lane of the F3 is closed, but "this can be much more in peak times".

Over 1000 motorcycle & scooter riders descend on NSW Parliament

Shadow Minister for Roads Andrew Stoner has addressed today’s motorcycle and scooter rally on Macquarie Street outside NSW Parliament, saying it sent a clear message to the Keneally Labor Government that the riders of NSW are sick of being short-changed.

“The Keneally Labor Government has an ongoing war on motorists in NSW but today the State’s riders hit back,” Andrew Stoner said.

Caring 4 Carers - It's the Right Thing to Do

alt
There are 750,000 carers in NSW. That means that more than 1 in 10 people in our community are carers.

The NSW Liberals & Nationals believe that the NSW Labor Government has not engaged with carers over the last 15 years. NSW Labor have not recognised, valued or appreciated the work that NSW Carers have performed through official legislation.

Recently, my colleagues, Shadow Minister for Ageing and Disability Services Andrew Constance and Shadow Minister for Mental Health Kevin Humphries, introduced the Carers Recognition Bill 2010 into NSW Parliament.

After ripping more than $11.4 bn out of the energy companies is it right that NSW Labor now expects regional families to suffer a 42% increase in their bills?
