Forbes Gets More Dialysis Funding Thanks to Our Visits

I’m always happy to report when visits to regional NSW by NSW Liberals & Nationals Shadow Ministers bring about benefits for our regional communities. Especially when NSW Labor coincidentally announces funding for well-deserved projects the day that our Shadow Ministers are in town.

This week the Nationals Duty MLC for Dubbo Duncan Gay arranged for the Shadow Minister for Health, Jillian Skinner, to visit Forbes. Over the last few years Duncan and Jillian have been tireless in their efforts to force the NSW Labor Government to provide additional dialysis funding for Forbes Hospital.

Last week I launched the www.nofuelnofire.org website which is an online survey about hazard reduction and your local community’s preparedness for the coming bush fire season.

Thanks to hefty increases in household insurance levies in NSW, we now have the highest funded and staffed Rural Fire Service (RFS) in Australia. But is the NSW Labor Government giving us value for money and making our regional communities safe?

At the current hazard reduction rate of around 120,000 hectares annually, it would take approximately 214 years to hazard reduce the 30 million hectares of fire prone land across the state. This rate is nowhere near the seven year rotation target land management target experts say we should be aiming for.
