Described as having ‘a gentle nature that is legendary in the cut and thrust of politics', Andrew Stoner is part of a new wave of young and passionate political leaders. A keen surfer and committed father of six, Andrew and his wife Cathy are proud residents of Wauchope on the NSW North Coast. Andrew believes in the importance of family and a fair go for all. Andrew was elected to the NSW Parliament as the Nationals Member for Oxley on March 27 1999. He was subsequently re-elected in March 2003 and 2007 and was elected Leader of the NSW Nationals in March 2003. As Leader of the NSW Nationals, Andrew is dedicated to bringing common sense back into how our State is governed. He is the proud leader of the only party that was formed solely to represent people living outside the major cities. In late 2008, Andrew was given responsibility for the Shadow Roads & Ports and State and Regional Development portfolios. Andrew had previously served in several other Shadow Ministerial roles, including Shadow Minister for Education, Skills, Emergency Services, Sport and Recreation, Natural Resources, Regional Development, Energy and Water Utilities. Andrew obtained a B.Bus., M.B.A and prior to entering Parliament he also worked as an employment agency manager. Andrew has been involved in community organisations such as Rotary, Lions, Chambers of Commerce and his church. Andrew has strong Christian values, and as NSW Leader of The Nationals he continues to fight for a better deal for country and coastal communities. He is focused on delivering improved services to the third of the NSW population that lives outside of the metropolitan area. Andrew is passionate about making sure that people in rural and regional areas get their fair share. In the lead up to the 2011 State Election Andrew will be working hard to do country and coastal NSW proud and ensure Kristina Keneally receives the clear message that NSW deserves better. ![]() About OxleyLocated on the mid north coast, the Oxley Electorate covers 12, 771 sq km. It includes the area from the Bobo River in the north to Marlee in the south; and from the Styx River in the west to the New South Wales coast in the east. It includes the Local Government Areas of Kempsey and Nambucca and parts of Armidale Dumaresq, Bellingen, Greater Taree, Port Macquarie-Hastings and Walcha. It includes the major centres of Bellingen, Dorrigo, Kempsey, Macksville, Nambucca Heads, South West Rocks and Wauchope. It has approximately 47,116 enrolled voters. ![]() |
